One of DFW’s rising stars, super middleweight knockout artist Samuel Clarkson (5-0, 4KO), will headline former World Champion Paulie Ayala’s upcoming 13th annual Boxing at the Ballroom which benefits Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth, on Friday, August 24th at the Renaissance Worthington Hotel in Forth Worth, Texas.
With power in both hands, Clarkson wastes little time taking out his opponent, having stopped three of them in the 1st round and another in the 2nd round. The only fighter to go the distance with Clarkson was Thomas Falowo (7-1, 5KO) who was undefeated at the time and fighting in his backyard of Rhode Island. Clarkson won by split decision. Tough veteran Brandon Singleton (4-5, 2KO) will step in the ring with Clarkson.
Ayala has high hopes for the charismatic Clarkson.
“Samuel has tons of potential and loves to fight and he can knock you out with either hand. I look forward to watching him develop and slowly climb the ladder to bigger fights. He has a tremendous personality that brings excitement to the ring. Samuel has a bright future in boxing.” Another fighter that Ayala is slowly grooming is former amateur star, Manuel “The Punisher” Rojas (6-0, 2KO). Rojas signed under the Paulie Ayala banner back in 2011 and has gone undefeated in his first six pro fights. Rojas will fight his toughest opponent to date in Raul Lopez (6-1-1).
“I feel he’s ready to start stepping it up, this guy has a decent record, I feel like he will test Manuel and that’s what he needs in order to keep moving to the next level of fighters,” stated Ayala. Crowd favorite and the always entertaining lightweight Miguel “The Fighting Marine” Buendia (8-1-1, 5KO) coming off a 1st round TKO win in his last fight in April and has not lost since his pro debut, will also perform. For the second year in a row, highly rated super featherweight Jennifer Han (7-1, 1KO) will be the “special attraction” for the Boxing at the Ballroom event and will fight the always dangerous TBA. A native of El Paso, Texas, Han was a five-time national amateur champion.
Rounding out the five card event is Fort Worth welterweights John Vera (2-0, 2KO) against Marco Antonio Aruaz (3-7-2, 1KO).
Boxing at the Ballroom will kickoff with cocktails at 6PM followed by dinner at 7PM and an exciting night of boxing at 8PM. To reserve seats or a table go to http://www.fortworthkids.org/Events-and-News/Boxing/index.php or call (817) 834-4711 ext. 210.
