Errol Spence, Jr. ( 12-0, 10 KO’s) of Dallas, Texas will be in Las Vegas on Friday night as he gets ready to fight at the Hard Rock Hotel on ShoBox: The New Generation, live on Showtime (9:30 p.m. ET/PT) as the Main Event on a special card of several undefeated prospects in the boxing world. Spence, an exciting and undefeated welterweight will be going against veteran Ronald Cruz (20-3, 15 KO’s) of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. They are scheduled for a 10 round welterweight battle that hometown fans are anticipating to watch and a fight that the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino fans are going to enjoy.
The southpaw Spence, who trains out of the Maple Avenue Boxing Gym in Dallas, Texas, has been on the fast track since first turning professional in November of 2012. He also fought a total of eight professional fights in 2013 and this will be his third fight in 2014. Now he is moving up to the next level on his destiny of becoming a world champion and in his first prime time fight. Having seen him train, he is very business-like in the ring and come Friday night it is going to be all business, that is, in the ring. His southpaw stance will be something new to Cruz, who supposedly has never fought a southpaw. If true, then he may be in for an interesting night against the precise punching southpaw Spence.
Cruz, a veteran with 15 knockouts went the distance against Kermit Cintron (35-5-2, 28 KO’s ), the former IBF Welterweight champion back in March of this year but lost by decision. Cruz himself is also the former WBC Continental Americas Welterweight champion, having won that title back in 2012. Cruz is ready for the challenge, and is quoted as saying that Spence is on his way to becoming a champion, but “I just feel they took this fight at the wrong time, it’s too soon, too early for him.” He is also quoted as saying, “Experience is on my side, many people think that I am going to be outboxed by Spence, but for him to get a victory over me, he’s gonna have to kill me first! Come Friday night, the fists will be doing the talking, so let’s see who talks louder.
