A night of upsets highlighted an exciton night of action at Bellator 126 and in the end, the Bellator middleweight division has a new ruler.
Bellator’s ruthless Russian champion Alexander Shlemenko was effectively dominated by undefeated contender Brandon Halsey in the main event of Friday’s card at the Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, AZ.
Halsey wasted no time in shooting in and taking the hard-handed Shlemenko to the ground. From there it was all Halsey who quickly slipped in a rear naked choke that put Shlemenko to sleep. The official time of the submission was 0:35 in the opening round.
The season 10 lightweight tournament final was won by Poland’s Marcin Held who simply out-worked and out-hustled Patricky Freire over three rounds. Freire seemed content to not let his hands go, where he would have had a considerable edge, and instead, let Held basically control the pace and rhythm of the fight. In the end it was a unanimous decision victory for Held.
Collegiate wrestling standout Bubba Jenkins continues to improve as a fighter with an impressive unanimous decision victory over Thiago Meller.
The Spike TV broadcast kicked off with a bang as Mike Richman obliterated Ed West with a vicious left hook to knock West out in the opening round.
