UFC 178 was one of those rear instances when a card you feel should be exciting turns out to exceed ones expectations.

In the main event of the night, flyweight kingpin Demetrious Johnson submitted an over-matched Chris Cariaso in the second round with a kimura.

Donald Cerrone welcomed former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez to the UFC with a blistering back and fourth war.  In the end, Cerrone proved to be simply too much for Alvarez earning a unanimous decision.

The UFC may have a new superstar in Conor McGregor who impressed the masses by stopping the talented Dustin Poirier in the first round.

Yoel Romero and his corner invited controversy with a disputed TKO victory over Tim Kennedy.  After the second round Romero’s corner refused to leave their fighter after the “seconds out” command.  The respite seemed to give Romero enough energy to recover from the near-knockout by Kennedy in the second round.

Cat Zingano earned a shot at UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey with an exciting TKO victory over Amanda Nunes.

Former champion Dominick Cruz returned from a near two year hiatus due to injury to obliterate Takeya Mizugaki in the first round.
