Per Tommy Gelehrter, Cincinnati has said that incoming freshman Shaquille Thomas had his eligibility waiver approved by the NCAA. He’s been granted a full scholarship. Also per Tommy G, Thomas can start practicing in December, and will redshirt this season. Thomas was ruled ineligible a couple of months ago, when the NCAA came down on his school, NIA Prep. Thomas was cleared, and now he’s officially official. Redshirting him is a smart idea. Not just because he can’t start practicing for a month after the rest of the team, but if something happened with all this, UC wouldn’t have to vacate anything. It’s a win win win. Win for UC, win for Shaq Thomas and a win for the fans. On a day when it looks like UC is stuck in the dead Big East, we needed some good news. We got it here.
