Update, 9:47 p.m.:
Here’s the audio of Sather’s press conference announcing the trade…
Official announcement of the trade.
Update, 6:33 p.m.:
Just some quick thoughts. I like the move for all the obvious reasons Sather states. It is a bit of a risk to go with all youth on the defense, but the Rangers could address that at the trade deadline if needed, which right now they don’t.
Wonder if Del Zotto will be back soon or they’re just going to ride McD.
As far as Wolski goes, let’s hope he can recapture some of the offensive talent he flashed in Colorado. Assuming he gets a shot with Gaborik, unfortunately meaning it’s probably back to the fourth line for Avery.
Somehow, Sather has been able to rid every bad contract he has brought in but Drury. That is utterly amazing. Or utterly stupid by other GMs.
Update, 6:29 p.m.
Wolski has six goals and 10 assists this season.
Update: 6:24 p.m.:
Glen Sather says trade allows Rangers to get younger, bigger and gives more cap room…
“That’s the other side of the coin,” Sather said. “It’s created another opportunity for us we didn’t have with Rozsival, who was five million under the cap. We reduced our cap by 1.2, that may allow us to do some things that come up in the future. It was a situation where it was easy for us to make for a lot of reasons.”
According to Gross, Wolski has a cap figure of $3.8 million this season and next before becoming a restricted free agent while Rozsival counts $5 million against the cap this season and next, though his actual salaries in the front-loaded contract are $4 million and $3 million. Thus the Coyotes save in actual money, an important consideration for that franchise.
Update, 5:00 p.m.:
Darren Dreger reports that that Rangers have traded Michal Rozsival to the Coyotes for F Wojtek Wolski.
Update, 4:57 p.m.:
Pierre LeBrun at ESPN tweets that the announcement will be a trade, but he doesn’t have the details.
…why am I scared?
