Mark Spector at Sportsnet reports that the Rangers will not be pursuing D Sheldon Souray from the Edmonton Oilers.
Spector adds that Rangers scouts dispatched to three Hershey Bears (the AHL team Souray is currently playing for) games over the weekend came away with serious concerns over Souray’s foot speed at the American League level, let alone how that pace would translate to the National Hockey League.
While Souray went plus-3 with an assist in the three games, bringing his stats up to three goals, 11 points and a plus-8 in 22 games this season, his game slowed down markedly as the weekend progressed.
…with Torts declaring this weekend the Rangers are going to go with youth and developing Michael Del Zotto, the passing on Souray doesn’t surprise me. It does however make me very happy. 🙂
