Staal Twists Knee

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports that Marc Staal left tonight’s game in the third period with a twisted knee he sustained in the first period that grew progressively worse as the game went on.

The original thought was that Staal suffered a consussion after a borderline dirty hit by brother Eric in the second period.

On the Staal hit Ryan Callahan said…

“Any time you lose one of your top defensemen it’s going to hurt the team, even if you lose him for the remainder of the game, it affects us,” Callahan said. “I thought it was a little dirty. He was tied up by his man and he was vulnerable there. I’m not sure it was a head shot. But I don’t think it was the cleanest hit by any means.”

…it’s one of those hits that’s not a blow to the head, but with Staal in a prone position you’d like to see Eric pull up a bit. Especially against his own blood. Wonder if that was payback for Marc stealing one of his girlfirends when they were kids.
