Larry Brooks at the New York Post gives us the numbers for possible buyout candidates…
CHRIS DRURY:
A buyout would save the Rangers $3,333,333 of cap space, but would cost the team $1,666,667 in space in 2012-13 as the CBA is currently constructed.
There is this, however: If Drury requires further knee surgery prior to the June 15-30 buyout period, the Rangers would be precluded from buying him out.
WOJTEK WOLSKI:
A buyout would save the Rangers $3,333,333 of space, but would cost $666,667 in dead space in 2012-13.
SEAN AVERY:
A buyout would save the Rangers $1,333,334 of space, but would cost the club $666,667 of space in 2012-13.
…i think you’ll see Avery with the Whale before they buy him out. Why would they pay him in 2012 for not being on the team when they can just Redden him next year. Add EC to this thinking as well
…Wolski will likely be in the Rangers line-up next year. Hopefully, he can figure out how to bring the same effort every night.
…as far as Drury goes, his situation will be by far the most interesting to follow this offseason.
