Using Your Talents to Honor Boogaard (Updated)

Update, 3:53 p.m.:
Rangers have decided to pass on getting involved with the Boogaard memorial patch/logo contest.

So it’s on to Plan B. I’m thinking maybe we can put the logo on a t-shirt and sell it with the proceeds going to one of the charities Boogaard supported.

Update, May 17th, 12:26 p.m.:
I’m going to bump this post up every day as a reminder.

One thing that has come up is whether to keep the logo Rangers specific or to add some Minnesota Wild elements to it. Initially my thought was to keep it Rangers specific, but I’ve already received a few entries that includes elements from both teams and I really like them. So whatever you feel is appropriate send it along.

The entries I’ve received so far are amazing.

Update, 12:11 p.m.:

Just wanted to quickly answer a few questions that have come up. It will be one entry per person and the deadline to submit your entry will be May 30 which gives you two weeks.

Original Post:
After seeing what a wonderful job Minnesota Wild fans did organizing a memorial service for Derek Boogaard, I felt Rangers fans needed to do their part in honoring the Boogey Man.

A few months back reader Todd W. donated some authentic Rangers jerseys to the blog for me to use as prizes for various contests. One of them is a Boogaard Heritage jersey.

After Boogaard’s passing, I really didn’t want to do a hokey Twitter contest to give the jersey away, but I knew I wanted to do something to honor him. So I did what everyone does when they are looking for an answer these days. I took to Twitter.

And the great Scotty Hockey did not disappoint, as he come up with the outstanding idea for Rangers fans to use their immense talents to design a memorial patch or logo for Boogaard.

So over the course of the next few weeks I’m asking anyone interested in participating to e-mail me ([email protected]) their creation. Once I start receiving your entries I will begin posting them on the blog for everyone to view and comment. One thing I do ask is that you not use photos. I’ll only accept entries with original material. Use of the Rangers logo is allowed.

I have contacted the Rangers to see if they would be interested in getting involved as well. Would be pretty cool to have a fan created patch/logo for the Rangers to wear on their jerseys next year.

If the Rangers don’t end up getting involved, I’ll probably narrow the entries down to five or so based on comments then do a reader poll to determine the winner.

The reader who comes up with the best patch/logo will receive the Boogaard jersey as a thank you.

After the talent that was displayed during the banner contest last year, I am really excited to see what you guys can come up with.

If you have any questions or need any clarification, leave them in the comments section or e-mail me.
