Rangers Leaning Forward, Could Trade Pick

Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record spoke with Gordie Clark about what the Rangers strategy could be for tonight’s draft…

“I’m not eliminating a defenseman because we just snagged Erixon, you’re never going to have too many of them,” Clark said. “I would say we’re probably leaning more toward just trying to see what’s there with forwards.”

Because the Rangers don’t have a second or third round pick Gross says there’s also the likelihood the Rangers will trade down if the players they’ve placed atop their draft board have already been selected.

Larry Brooks at the New York Post adds that if they do trade down, the Rangers could use a later first-round selection on explosive 5-foot-6 center Rocco Grimaldi, the Anaheim native who is entering his freshman year at North Dakota. It is believed the Blueshirts have forwards Tyler Biggs, Joel Armia, Matt Peumpel, Mark Scheifele and Brandon Saad on the radar as well.

…i’m going to be honest I have no idea who the Rangers are looking at. My choice is Mark Schiefele. You can read more about Scheifele here.
