So Who Is JT Miller?

Last night the Rangers surprised all the so-called experts by selecting Jonathan (JT) Miller at #15. So who is this JT Miller guy?

Miller, who has committed to the University of North Dakota for the fall of 2011, played in the United States Hockey League with the U.S. National Team Development Program, he ranked third on the team with 37 points and second with 26 assists.

He also led the U.S. with 13 points (4-9–13) and was named one of Team USA’s top three players at the Under-18 World Championships.

Miller on being selected at #15 (via Rangers Rants)…

“I’m very fortunate to have them take me so early.”

Gordie Clark on Miller (via Blue Notes)…

“There was no one (on the board) that had all the qualities that JT had. There could be someone who will score more goals, there could be somebody that’s going to be a faster skater, but if you want to put size with skating with character with grit with work ethic with playmaking ability and scoring ability, no one had all those qualities in their game. He had them all.”

Clark likened Miller to Brandon Dubinsky and Mike Richards.

Miller on his commitment to North Dakota…

“One year, that’s been a goal for me for a while now,” Miller said. “That would be outstanding.”

Miller will attend the Rangers’ prospects camp this Monday through Friday.

…i’m not even going to try and pretend I saw this coming. Nice to get another American on board. Hopefully this kid can add some much needed offense to the organization in the next 2-3 years.

…once Scheifele was picked by Winnipeg I really didn’t have a guy I wanted the Rangers to get so I’m happy with the pick.
