8 Bearcats Named to Athlon All Big East Teams

SuperBowl(1)

Athlon released their All Big East teams yesterday. The list is dominated by South Florida Bulls, 14 players, and UConn Huskies, 12. But the Cincinnati Bearcats had 8 players named. 2 of those were on the first team. Punter “The Freak” Pat O’Donnell and Kick Returner Ralph David Abernathy IV, aka the mosquito (because he’s a pest to the opposing special teams). Austen “Boom Boom” Bujnoch, Dan “Bone” Giordano, Walter Stewart, aka the Prius because he’s the ultimate hybrid, and Drew “Tito” Frey (because he’s DTF) made the second team. The two third teamers were Anthony McClung, 6, and Maalik “the Sheik” Bomar.

UC had the second fewest players named to the teams. Newcomer Temple had just 5. They had no one on the first team, the only program in the Big East with that designation. UC tied with the second most second teamers.

Keep in mind, it’s not where they have you pegged in June, it’s where you end up in December. Here is the second team since that one has the most Bearcats. To see the rest, you have to click on the Athlon link.

The most important question of this post is how long will these nicknames stick? In my heart, forever. In reality, about 2 hours.
