This past weekend, the CT Whale dropped both games of their home and home series against the Springfield Falcons.
But to me the biggest story is that Sean Avery was a scratch in both games with what is being defined as an “illness.”
In Avery’s first and only two games back with the Whale, he took penalties that directly led to opponent goals, one of which helped lose the game.
Then on Saturday, I posted an e-mail from a reader who was upset he was snubbed by Avery after Friday night’s loss in Binghamton.
In the comments section of the e-mail post, reader Rex_Havok, who lives in Binghamton, says a friend who works for a local Binghamton news affiliate and worked the locker rooms after the game told him that when she asked Avery if he would take a few questions he responded, “I feel like blowing my head off right now, so no.”
Avery missed the pre-game skate of the Binghamton game.
…ok, so what does this all mean? Most likely Avery is just sick, making him even more miserable after the waiving which has led to a drop in performance, a fan snub and the “blowing my head off” quote.
…however, my conspiracy theory (and I hope I’m wrong) is that Avery’s anger with the demotion has led to him becoming a cancer in the Whale locker room forcing the team to sit him with an “illness.” The Whale is 0-4 since his arrival.
