Rangers Roll Out Red Carpet for Assaulted Fan

David Li at the New York Post reports that Neal Auricchio Jr., 30, the Woodbrige police officer and Iraq war hero assaulted by Flyers fans following the Winter Classic, will be the guest of John Tortorella at the Ranger’s Feb. 27th game against the Devils.

Tortorella phoned Auricchio Monday.

“It absolutely lifted his spirits,” wife Maria Auricchio told The Post. “He’s, and we’re all, such big Rangers fans. It was great [to get Tortorella’s call].”

…fantastic job by Torts and the Rangers. If anyone is attending the game and you run into Auricchio make sure to give him a nice pat on the back.

…h/t to reader Fleisch.

Meanwhile, Bob M. of Bob’s Blitz, who’s originally from Woodbridge, confirms that Auricchio will need to undergo facial surgery as a result of the attack.

…let’s hope all goes well with the surgery.

There have still been no arrests.
