That poor, poor fellow had the most humiliating moment of his life last night. That moment would have been when he fell down the stadium seats right in front of a packed student section. The laughs that were had then were shared by no more than 33,000 people. Maybe there were some texts or tweets saying “LOL the trumpet player fell down,” but that’s one of those things that’s only funny when you see it. You text back something like “hahah” and go back to doing whatever you do before the game.
But for this fellow, he had his biggest humiliation caught on camera by ESPN. Not only was it shown multiple times, but the everyone who was watching the game laughed at his expense. It would be one thing if they just showed a dude falling. ESPN ratted him out for panomiming playing his trumpet, which was broken when he went ass over elbows. Of course someone in the band noticed this and probably laughed. That forced band guy to give the worst “I’m humiliated but I’m trying to be a good sport,” smile of all time.
You can tell so badly that he wishes that no one would notice or talk about this. Unfortunately for him, he’s in for a season of “Hey, you didn’t fall down the stairs!” text messages and comments from band members. When he doesn’t fall for the game against Delaware State, he might be a huge round of applause. It will be well deserved.
I hope trumpet guy takes all of this in stride. He absolutely needs to do a bow when he doesn’t fall during the next game. It’s gotta suck to get your balls busted by ESPN, your friends, your family, your band mates, your teachers, your fellow students, random people you see outside of school who recognize you, twitter, facebook, blogs and probably by trumpets, but you have to keep your head up. It was definitely a highlight of the game. Think of it this way, he’s always going to be intertwined in Cincinnati history. Weird shit happens when UC hosts Pittsburgh. Mascots get arrested, trumpet players fall on their face. It’s almost too bad the series is ending. I guess for band guy, we can’t put the Pitt game behind us fast enough. Cheer up, trumpet guy. The Bearcats won, you are a band celebrity, and if you are on twitter, we will all follow you. And keep in mind we are laughing with you, not at you. Ok, not at you that much.
