In Scott Burnside’s Trophy Tracker over at ESPN.com, he lists Glen Sather as his #4 general manager in the NHL. But in his analysis of the Rangers GM, Burnside pretty much admits that assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld is running the show for the Rangers…
“There’s a little bit of the Howard Hughes thing going on with the Rangers’ GM. Did he ever appear on camera during the recent HBO 24/7 documentary? And there is always the notion, at least externally, that assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld is the key component to how the Rangers operate organizationally.”
…wow, that’s a pretty interesting statement by LeBrun, who is normally on point with his rumors. But from everything I’ve read about Sather, he seems like a GM who does an outstanding job delegating responsibility (which every good boss does) and trusting his staff to make the right decisions without looking over their shoulder. So while Schoenfeld may be implementing the Rangers organizational philosophy, I can pretty much guarantee that Sather developed the current restructuring and is giving orders on how it should be administered.
