Bearcats Put 52-14 Whoopin’ On Miami

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl 2012

Tonight, the Cincinnati Bearcats beat the Miami Redhawks to retain the Victory Bell. The Bearcats got off to a very fast start thanks to the defense. Cam Cheatham picked off Zac Dysert and took it back for a score to put UC up 7-6. Arryn Chenault picked off a pass that led to a Munchie Legaux TD pass to Danny Milligan. A third turnover was not capitalized on. The second half saw a TD pass to Travis Kelce and a George Winn TD run, his second of the game, to bust things open.

The game was not without some concern. Munchie Legaux continued the trend of looking awful for large stretches, but compensating with a key pass. He had his weekly near INT. He added in a fumble that he didn't lose. The positives don't outweigh the negatives for me though. Munchie overthrew a wide open Travis Kelce in the end zone, a drive UC only scored 3 points on. He overthrew a WIDE OPEN Alex Chisum on a deep ball. UC didn't score that drive. The Bearcats didn't need him to play well to win this week. They aren't going to need him to play well next week. But at the same time, this is 2 of the last 3 weeks that he hasn't played as well as you would want. It comes with the territory, I guess. Munchie did throw 2 TDs and run for one, so it's all good enough. If I'm the coaching staff, I set him up with all passes to open the game next week. Get him going and put yards on top of yards.

The defense had the same problem they did against Delaware St for a large stretch of the first half. By that I mean they would turn it on and look great, but then they would turn it bland and get the ball thrown all over them. Chenault, Cheatham and Greg Blair all had INTs. The Redhawks went after Maalik Bomar a whole lot in the first half. I counted at least 5 completed passes on #4. Plus, Bomar was bowled over by Dysert on the Dysert TD run. It wasn't the greatest game for Bomar.

The Bearcats had the whole entire 4th quarter to get everyone some work. Hell, they did it in the first half too. Jordan Luallen returned from the dead to run the wildcat a couple times for 8 yards. UC had 15 penalty yards on a couple of the other called plays with Luallen at QB. LEVITICUS PAYNE got some run at corner when Deven Drane was banged up. Danny Milligan caught his first career TD pass. It was good to see him star in something other than the spring game. Tion Green scored his first career TD. Buckley got some play.

This paragraph begins with the letter T to keep the theme going. The Cincinnati Bearcats are 4-0. They kept the Victory Bell for the 7th straight season. They will be 5-0 next week. They will be in the Top 25 in both polls come tomorrow. Things are looking good for Cincinnati. The only problem was the whiteout was not a great success. Lots of red and black shirts. Cincinnati is not Penn State in this regard. Besides that, everything is good. Enjoy life.
