TSN reports the Rangers have traded Wojtek Wolski to the Florida Panthers in return for defenceman Michael Vernace and a third-round draft pick in 2013.
Vernace, 25, has scored two goals and 14 assists in 44 games with the Norfolk Admirals and San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League this season. He played 22 career NHL games with Tampa Bay and Colorado, registering one assist.
…holy crap, Sather got a player and a pick for Wolski? I would have taken a bag of pucks.
…this trade is a win for all involved, except for Florida, who will soon realize that they can’t motivate Wolski to play hard either.
Getting Wolski’s salary off the books open up more cap space to bring in you know who. Although according to Aaron Portzline at the Columbus Dispatch a trade for Rick Nash may be delayed to this summer…
“…in order for Nash to be sent elsewhere by Monday’s 3 p.m. NHL trade deadline, a significant shift in trade talks between the Blue Jackets and their limited number of suitors will need to occur.
The Blue Jackets are not close to a deal involving Nash, NHL sources told The Dispatch, and there’s a growing sense around the league that a trade involving Nash might wait until this offseason, perhaps at the NHL entry draft.”
Portzline adds that the Rangers had scouts at the Blue Jackets game last night.
…i think ultimately Columbus’ demands are too high for Sather and he moves on.
Finally, Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that Tim Erixon is in play as part of a potential Nash deal.
…Rangers have a ton of young talent on the blueline so if Erixon is part of any deal for Nash I wouldn’t be overly upset.
