Is It Time to Ride Lundqvist?

mail-7

I know we’ve all praised John Tortorella’s use of Marty Biron this season to keep Henrik Lundqvist fresh. And up until this point it has worked to perfection as the Rangers are the Eastern Conference’s #1 team while Lundqvist is almost a guarantee for the Vezina and a legit Hart candidate.

But recently Lundqvist, who has started just five of the last eight games, and the team have looked off as the Rangers have gone 1-2-1 in their last four games while giving up 15 goals.

Which has me wondering, could it be that the Rangers All World goaltender is getting too much rest?

In his last three games Lundqvist is 1-1-1 with a 3.30 gaa and .891 sv%. I’d say it doesn’t look like the additional time on the bench is helping out his game.

And how has Biron faired in the last three starts Lundqvist has missed? 1-1-1 with a 2.62 gaa and .887 sv%. Not exactly killin’ it the way he did earlier this season.

The Rangers have 16 games left on the schedule and I see just one game Biron should be starting on March 13th at home against Carolina. There is not another contest in March or April that Biron should even bother suiting up for in my opinion.

So I think it’s time. No more fooling around. He’s had his rest. He’s done his mental preparation. And now it’s time for the Rangers team to mount their big horse and ride him into the playoffs and beyond.
