Did Zuccarello Injury Just Guarantee Kreider Joining Rangers?

With Mats Zuccarello out indefinitely with a broken wrist and players such as John Mitchell and Ruslan Fedotenko struggling, you have to assume the entire Rangers organization will be donning Air Force gear at 4pm today when Chris Kreider and Boston College take on the U.S. service academy in a NCAA first round match-up on ESPNU.

…i would rather Kreider gain some pro experience with the Whale first, but I think the Rangers have no choice at this point. This team as constructed now will be lucky to get out of the first round with their lack of offense. Get him in there, hope he gives the team a spark and let’s win some playoff games.

…maybe Rick Nash would have looked nice in a Rangers jersey after all. If things go sour in the playoffs, I would empty out my 401K to bet Sather makes that happen this offseason.

Here’s Ryan Callahan on the Zuccarello injury (via Bergen Record)…

“It’s tough any time you lose a guy like that, who has so much skill. He brought another element to our power play, which was needed. It’s a tough loss but we have to keep going. Somebody else is going to jump in and that’s how it goes in this league.”

The power play, which had been so successful since the Zuccarello recall, was 0-for-2 after he left the game.
