Capitals 4, Rangers 1

-9

The New York Rangers (51-24-7) lost to the Washington Capitals (42-32-8) by the score of 4-1, tonight. For a box score and recap go to Yahoo! Sports.

…guess the Rangers didn’t want to play the Capitals in the first round. And I don’t blame them. Washington seems to be peaking at the right time.

…to be honest, I’m not worried. When the playoffs start, Tortorella will have this team ready.

…not the best last impression for Lundqvist’s Vezina bid.

…never a good sign for the offense when you can score only one goal on a goaltender wearing the #70.

…hope Rangers don’t decide to bring Kreider in for playoffs based solely on tonight. Mistake.

…guess the MSG ice maker thought tonight was the first round of the playoffs. What was up with the “Stanley Cup Playoffs” on the ice?

…nice to see Boyle continue his resurgence.

…great to see Stepan’s knee hold up. 20 minutes of ice time tonight.

…Rangers now have to hope former coach Tom Renney and the Edmonton Oilers can knock off the Canucks tonight so they can back into the Presidents’ Trophy.

…with the Capitals and Panthers winning, the Blueshirts get the Senators in the first round. Blueshirts went 1-2-1 vs. Ottawa this season. Had problems with their speed.

…didn’t really watch the game tonight, so I’ve got nothing else.

…not sure when the first game will be, but who cares. Playoffs baby!!!!!

Post game quotes (via Blueshirts United):

Henrik Lundqvist…

“That was a tough way to start a game with two quick pucks in the net. It was tough for us to recover and come back. But it’s a relief the regular season is over. It’s a good feeling to get playing for (playoffs). I am excited.”

Dan Girardi…

“We all really wanted to get that done today (winning the Presidents Trophy), but it’s not the end of the world. It was a long 82 games, and now we are just looking forward to the second season.”

Marc Staal…

“We wanted to win tonight, and we wanted to lock (the Presidents Trophy) down, but we didn’t do it. It’s disappointing, but now the fun hockey begins. Now we will use the confidence in the way we’ve played all season long and carry into the playoffs.”
