Geno Smith set out to distinquish himself from the rest of the quarterback class and several running backs needed to prove they have the athleticism to be worthy of an early round selection on Sunday. Who accomplished their goal in Indianapolis this weekend?
- Geno Smith was a big winner among quarterbacks today. Put up an impressive time in the forty, but much more importantly, he threw the ball extremely well. He looked confident, and looked like the top quarterback prospect in the draft should.
- Arizona QB Matt Scott needed to show that he's improved his throwing motion and is a similar athlete to a player he's often compared to, Colin Kaepernick. He didn't disappoint. His throwing motion looked much improved, he was placing the ball well, and his measurables were all near the top of his group.
- For a quarterback with more off field concerns than problems on the field, there wasn't much Tyler Bray could gain today. Still, he showed off a strong arm and did nothing to hurt his stock.
- Onterio McCaleb turned heads with an unofficial time of 4.21 in the forty. The offical time of 4.34 wasn't quite as impressive, but that speed is still elite. He weighed in at 168 pounds, however, and it's not clear where he'd fit at the next level.
- RB Knile Davis has battled injuries all through his career, and in 2012 it looked as though that those injuries had taken a toll on his once elite speed. He proved today, however, that's he's as fast as ever, clocking in with a 4.30 in the forty.
- Montee Ball looked exactly like the player most thought he would, turning in a 4.62 forty and failing to show much explosion. More concerning (and surprising) was Ray Graham's initial forty time of 4.72 seconds.
- Vanderbilt product Zac Stacy wanted to show that he's not too slow to play in the NFL, and it's likely he did just that. His 4.50 forty time mirrored fellow running back Gio Bernard's time. Stacy also put up 27 reps on the bench press, which was among the group's best.
