Day 2 of the NFL Combine in Indianapolis is in the books, and with on the field testing starting tomorrow, the real fun has just begun. Although people question the merits of the weigh ins, they are used as confirmation of the heights and weights that colleges listed them at. Some like Alabama’s WR Amari Cooper are only off by 2 pounds, or like 2009 draft pick Everette Brown, a defense end from Florida State. Brown was listed as 6’4 by the Seminoles media guide but only measured in at a hair over 6’1 in Indianapolis. Here are some notable weigh-ins from the first two days of the combine.
- Jameis Winston came in a little bit smaller than expected at 6’3 3/4 and 231 pounds, while Marcus Mariota was bigger, at 6’3 3/4 and 222 pounds.
- Dorial Green-Beckham from Oklahoma stole the show at the receiver position, measuring in at 6’5 and 236 pounds, just one pound away from coming in at the exact same height and weight as Calvin Johnson.
- Melvin Gordon measured in at 6’1 and 215 pounds. Todd Gurley also came in at 6’1, and only slightly heavier than Gordon, at 222 pounds.
- Amari Cooper came in incredibly close to his listed size at Alabama, coming in at 6’1 and 211 pounds. Kevin White, from West Virginia, stood an impressive 6’3 and 215 pounds.
- Maxx Williams, the tight end out of Minnesota, came in at 6’4 and 249 but more importantly 10 3/8 inch hands which will help immensely when it comes to catching the larger NFL football.
- The offensive linemen all had impressive weigh-ins, led by Iowa’s Brandon Scherff, who stood 6’5 and weighed 319 pounds. His arm length of 33 3/8 may suggest a push inside to guard at the beginning of career though.
- Trent Brown out of Florida, stood 6’8 and weighed in at a whopping 355 pounds, down 21 since his weight in at the senior. Brown has all the physical tools a NFL team looks for in a run blocking, mauler right tackle.
Kickers, punters, long snappers, the offensive line, and tight ends will take to the field for the on the field workouts on Friday. Quarterbacks, Wide Receivers, and Running Backs will have their NFLPA Meeting, psychological testing, bench press, and their interviews on Friday as well.
Friday also marks the weigh-ins, medical exams, press conference, and the first round of interviews for defensive linemen, and linebackers. Plus the arrivals and orientation of the defensive backs.
