Tommy Tuberville announced today that quarterback Jarred Evans, who was arrested Saturday night/Sunday morning, would be indefinitely suspended. Take it away, Coach Tuberville:
“Right or wrong, football players, basketball players, athletes across the country are guilty until proven innocent, even in my eyes, because you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Tuberville said at his weekly media luncheon Tuesday.
“I don’t know what happened, but we will find out. Right now he’s suspended indefinitely. He won’t be on the team, practice and meetings or any of that stuff, until he clears his name. Good chance he’s not guilty, and if that is correct, he’ll be back.”
Evans punched a man Saturday night. The man received a concussion and had to get stitches. Evans was told to stay away from him, which shouldn’t be a problem since the two apparently didn’t know each other. Evans has a pre-trial hearing November 4, which might be the earliest this gets figured out.
Jarred Evans was the Bearcats leading rusher against SMU and has been a catalyst in the running game ever since Ohio State. His suspension hurts the team a great deal. Especially with backs Tion Green and Hosey Williams out for the season and for another few weeks respectively.
