Breaking Vegas With Garrett Thornton – NFL Week One

The NFL season is here!!!!!

Every Friday I am going to give you the best 5 bets each week. Sometimes I will focus on the over/under, sometimes on just the spread. Either way, let me help you make some money this football season. But don’t blame me if I am the cause of you losing money….

Off we go….

Cleveland Browns @ New York Jets -3

Cleveland is absolutely terrible offensively. New York is very good defensively. If the Jets pitched a shutout in week 1, I would not be surprised at all. Even though Ryan Fitzpatrick should not be a starter in the NFL, he has targets around him (Eric Decker, Brandon Marshall, Chris Ivory) to put some points on the board. If the Jets can’t beat the Browns by three, in New York, who can they beat this season?

Miami Dolphins -4 @ Washington Redskins

Miami hits the road to play the drama-queens of the NFL in Washington. The quarrelling between Robert Griffin III and Jay Gruden is embarrassing. The two have come to a messy break-up which has led to Kirk Cousins being the starting quarterback. Miami has rejuvenated their defensive line led by Ndamukong Suh, and will be after Cousins all night. Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins offense will be able to have their way with a very suspect Washington defense.

Seattle Seahawks -4.5 @ St. Louis Rams

While Nick Foles is a definite upgrade over the QB situations of the past few years for the Rams, a quarterback in a new system against the Seattle defense in week 1 is a big disadvantage. Seattle is going to come out strong on both sides of the ball, and the defense is going to prove too much for Foles to handle. Russell Wilson is going to be very grateful for the addition of Jimmy Graham over the off-season. Look for those two to hook up for over 100 yards and a TD in week 1.

New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys -6

The Cowboys enter the season as the reigning NFC East champs. The Giants enter the season beat up and injured. The Giants will most likely be without Victor Cruz and Jason Pierre-Paul on Sunday night. Tony Romo enters the season fully healthy, same as defensive captain Sean Lee. The Cowboys will be without Greg Hardy and Rolondo McClain because of suspensions, but will still have enough to have their way with the Giants. Look for it to be a high scoring affair.

Upset Special of the Week:

Detroit Lions +3 @ San Diego Chargers

San Diego is a better team than last year but is looking at an offensive buzzsaw in week 1 against the Lions. Calvin Johnson is fully finally healthy and wants to regain the “Best Receiver in the League” crown. Look for a heavy dose of downfield passing from Matt Stafford. Johnson and Golden Tate should both have 100+ yard games. Look for Ameer Abdullah to be the best rookie running back in the game (matched up across from 1st round pick Melvin Gordon).
