Breaking Vegas With Garrett Thornton – Week Six

If you have been taking my advice each week … You’re welcome!

Five weeks into the season and sitting at 58%. I will take that every season! Take that Vegas!!!

Anyways, last week was a weird one. Three overtime games in just the Sunday morning session. Don’t see that often.

One of those morning games was the Seattle-Cincinnati affair. Sorry Seahawks fans, but that was a choke-job. Really didn’t see that one coming. I did pick the Bengals as a three point favorite, but I thought they would win by a touchdown at least. When the Hawks were up by 17, I thought it was a lost cause, there is no way that a defense like that would give up a lead, like that. Boy was I wrong.

The game last week that I nailed was my upset special … Pittsburgh pulled off a miracle and beat the Chargers. That was a great way to finish a wacky week of pro football.

What does this week hold for us???

Cincinnati Bengals -3 @ Buffalo Bills

The Bengals are rolling. The Bills are limping. The Bengals have all kinds of momentum after running off 20 straight points against the Seahawks. The Bills can’t run because their top-3 running options are all likely out this week. It’s looking more and more like Tyrod Taylor will miss the game and be replaced by E.J. Manuel. Manuel has been a big disappointment after the Bills used a 1st-round draft pick on him. To make matter worse, it is looking like Karlos Williams is going to have to sit it out as he hasn’t been cleared for his concussion. This is going to be a one-sided game. Bengals 28-Bills 10

San Diego Chargers +11 @ Green Bay Packers

Monday night, on national television, the Chargers were embarrassed by Michael Vick. Not something you thought you would hear in 2015. The Chargers have talent, a lot of it. The problem is, that talent isn’t on the offensive or defensive lines. If the Chargers can keep Phillip Rivers upright, they have the chance to be pretty competitive down the stretch, if not, they will continue losing to poor teams. The Packers are one of the best teams in the league, but will have a hard time covering such a large spread against a quarterback like Rivers. Packers 31-Chargers 24

Baltimore Ravens -2.5 @ San Francisco 49ers

This is the battle of two disappointments. Who would have thought that we would have looked at this game as one of the worst games in the NFL this weekend? These two just played in the Super Bowl three years ago!!! Now they are a combined 2-8 on the season. Each of these teams desperately needs a get-right game. When down in the dumps and looking to bounce back as a team, it takes leadership. Baltimore is the team with that leadership. Baltimore has a better coach, better quarterback, and most veteran defense. Ravens 24-Niners 20

Carolina Panthers @ Seattle Seahawks -7

To be completely honest, I have no idea why I am picking the Seahawks!!! It may be a subliminal thing. Every week I pick against the Seahawks I take a lot of flak from the 12’s up here in the Northwest. To be completely transparent, I am not a Seahawks fan in the slightest. That makes these picks even harder for me. But my mind just tells me that Seahawks are going to get right sooner, rather than later. Also, I have a hard time looking at the Panthers roster and figuring out how they are 4-0. Cam Newton has surely matured, but other than that, that teams doesn’t look great. Seattle is still a tough place to play and the Seahawks get Marshawn Lynch back. Seahawks 24-Panthers 14

Upset Special of the Week:

Miami Dolphins +2 @ Tennessee Titans

I hate picking against Marcus Mariota two weeks in a row. But I think this is a game that they right movies about. It is no secret that the Dolphins let their head coach, Joe Philbin, go. They hired Dan Campbell in the interim. Campbell is a guy that is going to bring some fire to that locker room that has been otherwise flat all season long. He will bring some grit and intensity to that defense that is so talented. I look for the Dolphins to rebound in a big way, and live up to a little bit of their preseason hype. Dolphins 35-Titans 24
