From Portland To Tacoma, Local MMA Shows Well Represented This Weekend

-5

This Saturday at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, CageSport MMA Presents: Super Fight League 45. This card features some of the Pacific Northwest’s most promising up and coming talent while highlighting a pair of fights with pros who have already proven themselves in top organizations. The fight card features eight total matchups and sees first time professional action for six fighters. As per usual the bout order and card are subject to change.

The current bout order is as follows:

  • Glena Avila vs. Amy Montenegro
  • Brent Knopp vs. Jordan Currie
  • Thomas Hoeper vs. Rob Burgess
  • Nate Cook vs. Rafael Brewster
  • Patrick Benson vs Kody Kramer
  • Dylan Potter vs. Artiom Cula
  • Journey Newsom vs. Justin Hugo
  • Eric Cronkhite vs. Danny Elliot

This fight card is really all about the main event, a featured matchup between Glena “Heartless’’ Avila and Amy “Resurrection” Montenegro. These two Pacific Northwest standouts have reached a level of success that will likely see both of them fighting less on the local circuit so this is a great chance to see these homegrown talents. Montenegro has already proven her worth outside the region having twice fought for Invicta FC; if not for a narrow split decision loss in her last fight, she might be approaching title contender status with the all female organization. Montenegro has proven that, if nothing else, she is hungry, she wants to fight and is trying to be as active as any fighter in her weight class. A win over a fighter as well regarded as Avila would be a great way to finish out her year. In the case of Avila, this fight represents a step up in competition that would surely put her on the radar of Invicta FC. Avila has a ton of support from fans thanks in part to the documentary Glena, which chronicles her journey as she banks her future on becoming a professional mixed martial artist. Avila has shown great improvement over the last year and it would seem that she is peaking at just the right time. This fight promises to be a war and the perfect headliner for the winter event.

If heading up to Tacoma doesn’t seem like your cup of tea, you shouldn’t fret; right here in Portland on Saturday night, you can take in some live mixed martial arts action as well. The FCFF is back at it again bringing fight fans Rumble at the Roseland 84. This is another stacked card from the FCFF (as usual) boasting a main card with three title fights. Never a bad value for a night out on the town, tickets are available both online and at Bridge City Fight Shop in Tualatin.

The fight card is as follows:

  • Nathan Sarate vs. Isaac Shelton
  • Chance Gabriel vs. Luis Lopez
  • Monti Wilson vs. Jordan Melendez
  • Justin Mark vs. Jess Moore
  • Dylan Blankesley vs. Tim DeVore
  • Phelan Carron vs. Scott Baker
  • Michael Collazo vs. Shalamar Washington

This card features a couple of fighters who you might want to keep an eye on. First there is Jordan Melendez, a tough young welterweight training with the team at Portland Thai Boxing. Melendez is 4-0 and has proven he is not only an adept striker but a threat on the mat as well. Should Melendez be able to come away with a win, it won’t be long before King of the Cage or Titan FC comes knocking. Another promising fighter who will be in action on Saturday is featherweight Isaac Shelton. Shelton is a fighter who I would say has gone under the radar to this point. Training at a small gym in Gresham, he has managed to slip through the cracks for some. Possessing a solid submission game and good length in the striking department Shelton has proven unbeatable inside the cage. Should he secure a win Saturday, it will be interesting to see if he makes a move to one the larger gyms in the area as he prepares for a higher caliber of opponent.

As you can see, this weekend is action packed, not only offering up great fights but great options for the fight fan too. These local fighters need your support so make a day of it and head to Tacoma or stay in town and head to the Roseland. Either way, you can support the Pacific Northwest fight community just by going out and having a great time.
