Seahawks Nation collectively shuddered upon hearing the news of Thomas Rawls’ broken ankle. How much more adversity will this team have to endure this year? One standout after the other has been knocked down, and in some cases, out for the season. I am sending all of my yogi energies to Marshawn’s abdomen so he can get back on the field ASAP—my equivalent of “sending thoughts and prayers.” Please join me. Om.
Of course, it’s cool as heck–as Coach Pete Carroll might say from on top of a locker—that the Hawks have won four straight games and seem to be gaining both defensive strength and offensive rhythm each week. Glad they figured out the O-line alchemy before the season slipped away. And as much as the first weeks of the schedule were physically and logistically grueling with four road games in five weeks (frequent flyer miles notwithstanding), the last few opponents provide opportunities to continue piling up points. I am really curious to see how “Johnny Football” copes with the 12th Man, assuming he doesn’t blow his chances to start two weeks in a row. Cough, cough—stay out of bars and away from iPads, Johnny—cough. Earl Thomas has been sent here to destroy you…with more interceptions.
But back to us. I don’t typically offer predictions, but I’m foreseeing a 40+ point outing this weekend. (Hey, if Jacksonville can score 50 on the Colts? C’mon, man!) I have mixed feelings about this score prediction, though—my husband and I started a ritual in 2013 called “Seahawk Pushups…” One push up for each point on the scoreboard, cumulatively. Math is hard, but that means for the weeks that they score 35 points, we do 7 + 14 + 21 + 28 + 35 = 105 pushups. This only sucks when we watch the game in bars that don’t mop their floors (ew) or in the 300 level of the Clink (ow). Anyway, if they score 50, my shoulders are in trouble. Serrātus gotta hate (anatomy joke).
Meanwhile, a tip of the hat to the UW Huskies, who fought and conquered a tough Ohio State team on Friday in five sets before getting knocked out in the Elite Eight on Saturday afternoon. They faced a determined Nebraska Cornhuskers team who were eager to play a Final Four in their home state. The six seniors on the UW squad are truly elite though, as they are the winningest class in the history of a very decorated program.
This is my last column for the year, as we’ll be on holiday break—woohoo…just like being a kid in school again. Thanks for reading, catch you in 2016, and Go Hawks!
