Over the last five games, the Seattle Seahawks have averaged just over 34 points per game. During that time frame, they won four of the five games with the only loss coming at the hands of a red-hot Arizona Cardinals team 39-32 in week 10. It’s worth noting that in its previous eight games, the team average just under 21 points per game.

Much of this turnaround in offensive play has been due in large part to the running of rookie running back Thomas Rawls and the passing and team leadership of star quarterback Russell Wilson. Their performances have propelled the Seahawks right back into playoff contention at point when they seemed to be fading.

As for Rawls, he put together three strong performances in a row prior to breaking his leg in the second quarter of the game this past weekend versus the Baltimore Ravens. In week 11, he stunned the football world with 209 yards rushing on 30 carries for a touchdown with another 46 yards and touchdown receiving. His loss on the season leaves the Seahawks down to its third-string RB in the person of DuJuan Harris.

With a suspect running game, the Seahawks will depend more than ever on Wilson who has been nothing short of brilliant over the team’s last four games, all victories. During that span, he has completed 89 of 118 passes (75.4%) for 1,161 yards and 16 touchdowns with no, that’s zero, interceptions. That calculates out to an astonishing QB rating of right around 142.5. It should be noted he also rushed for another 101 yards and a touchdown over that same span.

In the team’s huge 35-6 victory on the road versus the Baltimore Ravens this past week, he responded to the loss of his upstart running back by throwing for 292 yards and a career high 5 touchdowns. Over the past three games, he has hooked up with wide receiver Doug Baldwin for 321 yards and 8 touchdowns, including 3 this past weekend. This has been a nice surprise as the Seahawks have been without All-Pro tight-end Jimmy Graham who has been sidelined with an injury over the last two weeks.

On the season, Russell has completed 68.8% of his passes for 3,289 yards and 26 touchdowns (tied a career high) to go along with 456 yards rushing and a touchdown with his feet. Always thought of as a running threat, he has finally learned the art of staying in the pocket and delivering the ball on target. With three games left on the season, he is on target to set career highs in every passing category barring injury.

With Russell and Baldwin playing at such a high level, the Seahawks are looking more like the Super Bowl Champs of two seasons ago. Of course injuries in the backfield have to be a major concern, but the offensive line is playing well enough that most anyone can come in and give a nice contribution. If defenses choose to key on the passing game, Russell is still more than capable of loosening them up by running all over the field. At this point in time, Wilson has to be considered the most dangerous football player on the planet, and the rest of the league had better be a bit worried.
