Breaking News: Pacers trade picks for George Hill from Spurs

This just in.  The Indiana Pacers picked Kawhi Leonard with their 15th overall pick, and shortly after it was announced that Leonard, along with whoever is picked 42nd, and the rights to Euro player Erazem Lorbek (2nd round pick from 2005) for George Hill from the San Antonio Spurs.

George Hill is a 6’2″ point guard and an Indiana native who averaged 11.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists last season.  The speculation was that the Spurs were dangling starter Tony Parker and that Hill would slide into the starting spot, but it looks like they are down definitely keeping Parker.

With Hill, the Pacers get another promising young point guard who can flat out shoot the ball and is a solid defender, though it remains to be seen how he can fit in with the Pacers’ system.  With Collison as the incumbent starter, does that mean Hill will come off the bench, or will he shift to shooting guard to displace Paul George (though he will be undersized there), or will there be more moves coming?

This is turning out to be a very exciting draft night.  Hopefully there will be more surprises to come.  Let’s face it, this was a weak draft and the trade made a whole lot of sense for Indiana.
