The Official BMR Predictions Post

With the season starting tonight, we might as well unleash our predictions on an unsuspecting world. If you remember, we correctly picked the first round of the 2009 Eastern Conference playoffs. So, clearly, we’ll be getting a few things right when all is said and done. First up are our playoff predictions. We each ranked what we thought would be the top eight teams in each conference at the end of the year. The team ranked first got 8 points all the way down to the predicted 8th place team who gets one point. Add them up and ta da! Predictions!

1. Boston
2. Pittsburgh
3. Washington
4. Philly
5.Carolina
6. Jersey
7. Rangers
8. Montreal

1.San Jose
2. Detroit
3. Vancouver
4. Chicago
5. Calgary
6. St. Louis
7. Anaheim
8. Everyone (4-way tie)

You got McBrayer’s predictions the other day, so now here are a few from myself and Domi:

Schultz: This year, there won’t be as much fun in Montreal with so many departures and the whole 100th year celebration behind us. It’s too bad, really. Ray Emery in Philadelphia should pick up the slack though and entertain us in the Eastern conference. Out west the Sharks offense will be insane but still fall hilariously short in april. The Blues are the team to watch out there, for sure. They should be much improved along with the Hawks who could win it all. The Islanders will still suck, the Leafs won’t make the playoffs and the Wild are still mired in mediocrity. So that leaves McBrayer to brag all fucking season. Ugh. Someone wake me up when the draft lottery rolls around.

Hawks over Pens in the Finals

Domi: This year in hockey, things will happen. Yeah, I’m no good at predictions and such, but whatever. Ray Emery and Chris Pronger should keep it entertaining for Flyers fans (until one or both are suspended.) The Penguins should also be fun to watch, provided Jordan Staal doesn’t get arrested again (actually, that would be kinda funny, depending on the crime.)

Out west, the Blues and Canucks could be movers and shakers. The Blackhawks should also be interesting to watch, provided everyone can afford a ride home.

The Wild are still in an odd spot–they’re in that uncertain area of maybe making the playoffs or maybe not. Carolina should be a team to watch, but I’d rather watch the Capitals (shut up, Dave.) If the Leafs do, by some strange miracle, make the playoffs, it would probably be a first round sweep at the hands of the Bruins. If not that, then the Leafs will end up either 9th or 10th after a long, tantilizing and teasing early 2010 run that will ultimately leave fans disappointed. The Islanders, despite the arrival of Tavares, will probably continue to be the Islanders and make Kevin cry. Now, I can’t really join Kevin in wishing for the draft because the Kessel trade has given Boston several draft picks. YOU BETTER LIVE UP TO IT, KESSEL! I’M WATCHING!

Now, I can’t declare my predictions for Stanley Cup finals just yet, since my ttradition is to get really drunk on Halloween and make them then. But, I can haphazrdly pick teams I think will make the playoffs.
