Good evening (or morning, depending on when you read this), Patriots fans! We got treated to another Sunday Night Football game featuring our team. Tonight though, they would be playing a very difficult Colts team in their barn. Despite all the facts and scenarios that experts used to say the Colts would win, it just never happened. The New England Patriots overcame all that adversity and made sure to leave Indianapolis with a solid victory.
The Patriots’ first possession was very rush-oriented. With the exception of a few passing plays, literally everything was a running play. That drive ended with a touchdown run by Jonas Gray (lots of running!). The Colts responded with some nice passing plays and a field goal from Adam Vinatieri (still a pretty good kicker at 40+). After that, defensive stops and turnovers became popular. Both Tom Brady and Andrew Luck got picked off by each respective defense. New England took advantage on one of those turnovers and Gray finished that drive with another touchdown. But Indy also added a touchdown of their own after Brady’s 2nd pick, with Andrew Luck finding Hakeem Nicks in the end zone. At the end of the first half, the Patriots led the Colts 14-10, and I don’t know about you, but I was concerned by that.
Luckily, the Patriots got to start with the ball in the 2nd half. They wasted no time as Gray and Shane Vereen helped New England move down field. Tim Wright caught a touchdown pass on that drive to increase the Patriots lead. Vinatieri responded with another field goal but no problem because who was there to save the day? You guessed it! Gray rushed for his 3rd touchdown of the night! After a questionable touchback (that should’ve been ruled a safety on the Colts), Indy drove down the field and Anthony Castonzo caught a touchdown pass from Luck. That wasn’t even a problem though because the Patriots were able to drive down the field again and you won’t believe it but…Gray got into the end zone again! I don’t play but, for any of you fantasy football players, Gray sounds like an excellent waiver wire pick up right now. New England was not done yet though. After stopping the Colts on 4th down, Brady found Rob Gronkowski. And you can expect what happened next – Gronk did Gronk-like things (pushing other defenders and jumping into the end zone for a touchdown)! Both defenses kept the scoring at that so that would be your all! Your final score, New England Patriot 42, Indianapolis Colts 20!
Another Sunday Night Football blowout win for the Patriots. Along with that fact, the Patriots have beaten all the other division leaders in the AFC (Broncos and Bengals) by at least over 20 points. Tell me you’re not convinced that this team is for real now. Your MVP of this game is easily Jonas Gray. We’ve seen he can be a dynamic player but who would’ve predicted a 4-touchdown, 199 yard rushing (are you serious? 1 yard shy…) night? Not me for sure! You also may/may not have noticed but Darrelle Revis had a GREAT game defensively. The way he covered Reggie Wayne tonight was incredible and it made a huge difference. But give credit to this whole team for playing as one unit tonight. I’m not sure what they went over in the bye week but it certainly helped. And I’m sure the Patriots will keep this attitude as they progress towards the end of the season. Until then Pats fans, rest easy and enjoy the rest of the week. We’re onto Detroit!
