Islanders Defeat Leafs, Canes in One Night

Last night, if you weren’t aware — you likely weren’t — the Islanders defeated the Dave McBrayer Hurricanes in front of 9,122 fans (that number is oddly honest) at the Nassau Coliseum. It was a great spectacle of sporting contest! Neither team wanted to win and they tried ever so hard not to. The Islanders jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second period, which prompted me to send this email to BMR staff.

At the isles game… Looks like this could be the shortest bet ever.
Its 3 – 1. Then again they will probably blow it in the third

An hour later and two Hurricanes goals later, the lead was successfully blown. The Isles gave up two goals in the third to let the McBrayer Sponsored Hurricanes tie it. In fact, it looked as though the Isles would lose it right there. But the Canes would not have any of it. They let the Isles get the game to overtime in hopes of losing. Not to be outdone, the Isles insisted on a shootout which they knew they would lose since they were already 0-2 in shootouts this year. However, it would be the Canes who would lose better as Cam Ward looked like Andrew Raycroft in allowing three shootout goals in succession to the likes of John Tavares, Frans Nielsen and… Wait for it… Jeff Tambellini. The same Jeff Tambellini who has been heralded to have such a scoring touch that he has 11 goals in his first 146 NHL games!

So, in one fell swoop the Islanders defeated the Hurricanes and the previously-thought-undefeatable-Dave McBrayer as well as the Toronto Maple Leafs and one Loser Domi by notching their first win of the year.

Ah, yes. These are heady days to be an Islander fan!
