Finally, we can give D-Will the game-ball in a Nets win |
It wasn't easy and it wasn't pretty, but it was a win. Snapping a two-game losing streak–and finally beating a Southwest Division opponent–the Brooklyn Nets held on to beat the New Orleans Hornets this evening in the Big Easy. Brooklyn held a 22-point lead at one point in the second quarter but watched it slip away gradually throughout the end of the first half and the beginning of the second. Then, with the Hornets perpetually sticking around, the Nets kept hitting shots to keep their lead afloat and after a few dagger shots from Deron Williams, finally put away a pesky New Orleans team.
Some other observations I had from the game: Probably best game of D-Will's season, even though he hurt his wrist in the third quarter (would return later). Used his swagger-step (made-up term by me) often to get by Greivis Vasquez, who had no shot of sticking with him tonight. Hit a bunch of threes, which reminded me a little of his 38-point masterpiece performances last year against the Knicks. Also, scored 33 points on an efficient 10-21 shooting. This is the D-Will the Nets traded multiple lottery picks for and if they can get Joe back soon, with both of them playing good ball simultaneously, this team can be very scary come playoff time…..Brook Lopez stepped up to the plate, getting 4th-quarter for the first time since the All-Star break and being productive with them, scoring 20 points on the night on 9-14 shooting. He clearly outclassed his brother Robin and also filled up the stat sheet, grabbing seven boards, dishing out five assists, and even blocking four shots as well……C.J. Watson and Bogans were both great again. C.J. scored 10, making tonight the 6th-straight game he's been in double figures for. Also, Keith hit all four shots (three three-pointers) he took, leading to a solid 12-point bench showing for the vet….Team slashline (FG%/3FG%/FT%): 48.7/60.0/83.3. Good stuff…..Vasquez, of the Hornets, deserves mention not only because he is my favorite college basketball player of all time (I'm a Maryland fan) but also because he had a near triple-double (20 pts, eight rbs, seven asts). He can really be a great facilitator just if he was given some more on-court talent.
Looking Ahead
The Nets have a little bit of a break, and head home to take on (Vince Carter, Anthony Morrow and) the Mavericks at Barclays on Friday night.
