Game 61 Recap: Nets 99, Bobcats 78. The One Where The Three-Pointer Fell

Game 61 Recap: Nets 99, Bobcats 78. The One Where The Three-Pointer Fell
D-Will returned to Charlotte, the site of his 57-point game a year ago, and scored 20 points with eight assists tonight in a Nets win

Coming in, losing four of their last five games, the Nets needed a win in the worst way tonight vs the horrendously bad Charlotte Bobcats. Well, after a first half that left much to be desired, Brooklyn held its opponent to just nine points in the third quarter, catapulting the Nets to a second half in which they outscored Charlotte by a score of 56-25. In an odd reversal of trends for Brooklyn, they found themselves down 10 points after the first two quarters and, as noted, completely flipped the script in the last two. A surprising occurrence for the lowest-scoring third quarter team in the NBA.

Even though they hadn't played in three days, the Nets were extremely sluggish coming out of the gate tonight and couldn't really get much going in the game's first 24 minutes. That negative start was quickly neutralized in the second half as the Nets' better players started to get hot while the Bobcats' got deathly, deathly cold. Literally the only thing that the Nets didn't do right this evening was hold onto the ball, as they committed a horrid 24 turnovers to Charlotte's 12.

Some other observations I had from the game: Brooklyn's Big Three did it again, with each Brook Lopez, Deron Williams, and Joe Johnson recording +17s, shooting at least 50 percent, and grabbing at least four rebounds. Brook, on 6-7 shooting, scored 16 points and grabbed five boards, playing highly efficiently in all aspects of the game. Spread the floor wonderfully with his knockdown jumper. Deron dropped 20 on 7-12 shooting and 4-6 three-point shooting while dishing out eight assists. His four turnovers (and Joe's six) were really their only weaknesses. Joe scored 22 on 8-12 shooting, with 5-8 shooting coming from behind the arc.

Looking Ahead

The Nets head home to take on the Wizards at Barclays on Friday night.
