Jason Kidd as new Nets head coach? Maybe
Kidd played for the Nets for seven seasons, then for the Mavericks for four, and then the Knicks for one. What about next season for the retired point guard? Possibly head coach of the Nets

Brian Shaw, current assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers, has widely been viewed as the frontrunner to get the vacant Brooklyn Nets' head-coaching position for roughly a week now. But his status in that spot may be in jeopardy as a surprise candidate for the job has suddenly come into focus, and that candidate is very near and dear to the hearts of Nets fans. He also happens to be recently-retired from the NBA and played for the Nets' main rival, the Knicks, last season. Oh, and his name is Jason Kidd.

According to an Adrian Wojnarowski report on Yahoo! Sports, Kidd is interested in joining the coaching ranks immediately and has his eyes on the Brooklyn job in particular. Clearly, the stigma of a player so closely removed from a playing career heading straight into coaching would be a little deterrent for the Nets and GM Billy King in terms of considering Kidd as a legitimate possibility, but his knowledge of the game and connection with the franchise would seem to classify him as an interesting and reasonable option.

However, players even with Kidd's resame are rarely thrown into such an important position so soon after they finish their careers as players. It still appears like Shaw is Brooklyn's #1 choice at the moment, a supposition that could obviously change as easily as with a phone call. But it's hard to deny the allure that a hire like Kidd would provide fans, the front office, and even the players associated with the Nets. I, for one, would be excited to watch a team led by Kidd. I just don't know if it's his proper time yet.
