The Nets beat the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night to open their preseason slate with four of Brooklyn's five expected starters on the floor. The fifth, Deron Williams, missed the win with an nagging ankle injury that he chose to rest instead of exert in a meaningless early October exhibition. Originally, it was expected that D-Will would only miss Brooklyn's first two preseason games (Tuesday's win and Saturday's upcoming home meeting with the Pistons) with the ankle ailment.

However, now it looks like the Nets' starting point guard is going to be out for the first four games of the exhibition schedule, putting Deron out of commission through at least the 17th of October, when the Heat visit the Barclays Center. As it's only a sprained right ankle, it shouldn't jeopardize his regular season availability but isn't something to take lightly. It's smart for Brooklyn to just play it safe now, so no regrets have to made later on.
