A few tidbits of Nets news here just a few hours before Jason Kidd's jersey is retired at Barclays before Brooklyn battles the Miami Heat in a preseason contest:
Marko Jaric, the veteran point guard the Nets signed for depth during training camp, was waived on Wednesday. Although the team didn't say anything official about the reason for cutting Jaric, but he managed to give the probable reason via Twitter: "Thanks to the Brooklyn Nets organization for everything but I am just to (sic) much out of shape. Good luck!!!" (@markojaric). The move cuts the Brooklyn roster down to 18, meaning three or more players have to be released before the regular season starts.
Also, a key Nets role player for three seasons in the mid-2000s will now be a member of the organization's D-League coaching staff. Cliff Robinson, who spent 17 seasons in the NBA with the Trail Blazers, Suns, Pistons, and Nets before retiring after the 2007 campaign, has reportedly been hired as an assistant coach for the Springfield Armor, the Nets' D-League affiliate. Robinson was a Net from 2005-07 and was known for his ability to hit three-pointers even as a 6'10" power forward. One might say he was the Nets' earlier version of Mirza Teletovic, perhaps.
