Brook Lopez breaks foot, is reportedly done for rest of season
Lopez has had recurring foot and ankle injuries problems this year and in years past. Now, it looks like he'll be out for the rest of the 2013-14 season.

The Nets lost one of their worst games of the season last night in Philadelphia against the 76ers. However, it turns out the consequences for that game were much more than just Brooklyn's 17th loss of the season, compared to nine wins. Their center, Brook Lopez, also lost the rest of his season in that game, as it appears he broke his foot during one point last night, and possible played through the 4th quarter and overtime on the injury.

The first reporter to break the horrific news was Gary Tanguay, of Comcast SportsNet New England. Tanguay's tweet earlier this Saturday morning sent shockwaves through the Nets and NBA community at large, as Lopez was expected to be named an Eastern Conference All-Star and possibly lead his disappointing Nets team to the playoffs. Now, none of that is likely to happen.

I'll have a longer post on Brook up on the site later today, but at least for now, the similarities between him and a former NBA star big-man are stunningly similar. Yao Ming, of Houston Rockets fame, was even more dominant than Brook in the paint, in the early-to-mid 2000s, until debilitating foot injuries forced him to prematurely reture from basketball.

I'm not saying Brook's career is finished, but at this point, with these bad-luck Nets, it's irresponsible to say that's not possible. In all likelihood, Lopez will be back with the Nets for the 2014-15 season, as healthy as possible, and will continue to try to be a strong post scorer–and hopefully improved interior rebounder and defender. What we don't know, thought, is if his body will let him do that.
