It’s finally here. The Nets’ third season in Brooklyn is about to officially begin, but this year starts with more questions than in past ones. Will Brook Lopez be able to stave off injury (for the most part)? Will Deron Williams return to form? Will Bojan Bogdanovic make a big rookie splash? There are many more to ask that those three, but we don’t have to belabor them.
Injuries, overall, will be a huge factor in how the Nets do this season, and they didn’t get off to a great start on that hand with Brook Lopez’ early sore foot. That injury is actually holding him out of tonight’s game and maybe for the next few as well. Deron Williams, who has struggled with ankle problems for years, is healthy right now though, on a positive note.
Meanwhile, the Celtics–who weren’t sure if Rajon Rondo would be available for the game–will indeed have their star point guard in the starting lineup, which probably isn’t what the Nets wanted to hear. It’ll make for a pretty darn matchup of point guards.
Probable Lineups
BKN- Deron Williams (PG), Bojan Bogdanovic (SG), Joe Johnson (SF), Kevin Garnett (PF), Mason Plumlee (C)
BOS- Rajon Rondo (PG), Avery Bradley (SG), Jeff Green (SF), Jared Sullinger (PF), Kelly Olynyk (C)
Final Thoughts
As much as the Nets desperately want to get off to a good start this season after going 10-21 in their first 31 games in 2013-14, a loss tonight wouldn’t be the end of the world. But, it would not be optimal in the slightest. If this Nets team is going to make the playoffs, it needs to take care of business against the NBA’s inferior teams. The Celtics qualify as one of those.
