The Nets have had their problems with the Chicago Bulls since they’ve been in Brooklyn, that’s for sure. The Bulls have won the last two season series between the teams with a 5-2 record and devastated the Nets in the first round of the 2012-13 playoffs, winning in seven games. That series included the infamous C.J. Watson missed dunk which changed the whole series.
A lot of players involved in that series are long gone from both the Nets and Bulls but what remains the same is Derrick Rose’s injury problems lingering over Tom Thibodeau’s team like a dark cloud. Rose didn’t play in that series and is actually on the court this year–after two years of an injury-plagued haze–but has been in and out of the lineup.
Most recently, he left early from a loss against Denver after playing just ten minutes with what appeared to be a possible flare-up of the knee issues that have cost him multiple seasons. He has also missed eight other games this season due to a hamstring injury as well as a few others. However, he scored 21 points on Friday in 28 minutes against the Celtics in a Bulls win, so maybe he’s close to 100 percent.
Overall, Chicago is doing well this season, even with the injury problems it has had to deal with. The Bulls are 10-6 and winners of two of their last three games. The Nets beat the now 0-16 Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night but almost lost that game down the stretch so Brooklyn hasn’t really played well in a long time.
Probable Lineups
CHI- Derrick Rose (PG), Jimmy Butler (SG), Mike Dunleavy (SF), Pau Gasol (PF), Joakim Noah (C)
BKN- Deron Williams (PG), Joe Johnson (SG), Bojan Bogdanovic (SF), Kevin Garnett (PF), Brook Lopez (C)
Final Thoughts
I’m not really sure what to expect from this game because of the fits the Bulls’ defensive strategy normally gives the Nets. Also, Mirza and Bojan have been cold from three lately so Lionel Hollins will need them to get back on track if the Nets are going to have any chance of winning. Oh, and a Derrick Rose-Deron Williams point guard matchup is amazing.
