The Nets are 6-9. The Knicks are 4-14. Combined, that’s good (bad?) for 10-23, an awful record for New York’s two NBA teams to share. For Brooklyn, effortless (in a bad way) offense and defense has led to another bad start, even though the team is very talented. For the Knicks, lack of talent has been the issue as well as some horrific shooting performances.
Regardless of the reasons, these two teams need wins incredibly badly at this point. Brooklyn is coming off a home blowout loss at the hands of the pesky Chicago Bulls while New York/Manhattan has lost four in a row and 13 of its last 15, the last defeat coming at MSG against the Miami Heat. It’s getting really rough out there for rookie head coach Derek Fisher.
But when the Nets and Knicks play, you can normally throw the records right out the window as at least since the Nets moved to Brooklyn, the rivalry has been pretty even record-wise. Considering Brooklyn crushed the Knicks back on November 7th, it may be New York’s turn to have the upper hand.
Probable Lineups
BKN- Deron Williams (PG), Joe Johnson (SG), Bojan Bogdanovic (SF), Kevin Garnett (PF), Brook Lopez (C)
NYK- Jose Calderon (PG), Iman Shumpert (SG), Carmelo Anthony (SF), Quincy Acy (PF), Samuel Dalembert (C)
Final Thoughts
The Knicks are very, very bad. They don’t play a lot of defense, miss a ton of shots and are one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA, even worse than the Nets (!). The Nets aren’t a top team by any means but they really shouldn’t have much trouble tonight unless Melo or J.R. Smith gets incredibly hot from the field. A loss would drop Brooklyn to 6-10.
