Tanya Snyder, wife of Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder, along with the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, joined cancer advocates and survivors today to emphasize the importance of breast cancer awareness and recognize the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP).
The program has given low-income, uninsured, and underinsured women access to lifesaving breast and cervical cancer screenings since 1991. The program will perform its historic 10 millionth screening this fall.
Dream Team no more
“The dream team…that word is dead now,” says Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. Back-up QB Vince Young coined the term as the Eagles added a number of big name players to the roster this preseason.
Eagles Andy Reid was not happy at Young’s description that brought a ton of unwanted attention to the team. Perhaps Reid thought, as Redskins fans know, those teams need time to jell when they make that many changes at once. There is a transition price that must be paid.
That is why Redskins fans know from long, first-hand experience that you can’t buy a championship.
There is a Karma that comes with loading up talent in football. It is negative. It does not work. It jinxes the team (Exhibit A: 2000 Redskins; Exhibit B: 2006 Redskins).
As Tony Kornheiser pointed out, Vince Young uttered “Dream Team” before playing a down for the Eagles in a live game. The term, like Young perhaps, reflects an egotism that lets one think they are better than they are.
The Eagles have an All-Madden secondary with Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Asante Samuel, but Philadelphia sits in division last place at 1-3. The Eagles could not hold leads and have allowed 101 points against them, by coincidence the exact number of points they have scored.
The Redskins have never beaten Vick or Young. This is the year (I hope). Philadelphia is a dangerous, desperate team. They are also Washington’s next opponent, Sunday, October 16, 2011 at FedEx Field.
