The month of January was about as bad as possible for the Nets, as they went just 3-10 and saw their record plummet from one game under .500 to eight under. So far, February has been the exact opposite.

Brooklyn has won all three games in the new month so far, beating good teams in the Clippers and Raptors as well as a pretty bad one in the Knicks. The Nets have another tough challenge tonight, though, as they have the Wizards–losers of five in a row–in our nation’s capital. For once, the Nets aren’t the team on the long losing streak.

Washington has hit a rough patch of late, especially against fellow Southeast Division teams. The Wizards fell to the Hornets twice in the last week and also lost to the mighty Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. All of the recent losses were of the single-digit variety which points to Washington’s scoring troubles that have prevented Randy Wittman’s team from hitting 100 points since a January 19th win over the 76ers.

These teams have already played twice this season, splitting a home-and-home series a few weeks ago in which the road team won both nights, a note that might bode well for Brooklyn on Saturday.

Probable Lineups

BKN- Jarrett Jack (PG), Alan Anderson (SG), Joe Johnson (SF), Mason Plumlee (PF), Brook Lopez (C)

WAS- John Wall (PG), Garrett Temple (SG), Paul Pierce (SF), Nene Hilario (PF), Marcin Gortat (C)

Final Thoughts

Kevin Garnett (rest) and Bradley Beal (toe) are both out for this game, meaning each team will be without a key starter. Also, Kevin Seraphin (ankle) is a gametime decision, possibly leaving Washington without a key frontcourt backup. Veteran power forward Drew Gooden, who hasn’t played in the Wizards’ last four games and only has appeared in four in 2015, will be active.

Not having Beal limits some of Washington’s athletic advantage over the Nets which could help Brooklyn a bit. It’s no surprise KG is out on the second half of a back-to-back, which pushes Brook back into the starting lineup with Plumlee.
