After a three-game winning streak that broke the Nets out of their January doldrums, a Saturday beatdown at the hands of the Washington Wizards brought Brooklyn right back down to Earth. Now, they continue an extended eight-game road trip up in Milwaukee against a pair of former friends.
Jason Kidd’s Bucks, now with Nets teammate Kenyon Martin, who played with Kidd in New Jersey back in the early 2000s, are comfortably sitting in the No. 6 slot in the East. They’re 13.5 games behind conference-leading Atlanta and 3.5 behind No. 5 Cleveland, but six ahead of No. 7 Charlotte and 6.5 ahead of the currently unseeded Nets.
In the first meeting between these two teams this season, on November 19th at Barclays, Milwaukee prevailed in a crazy triple overtime contest. The game went to its first extra period after a missed O.J. Mayo layup, a second one on a missed Brandon Knight layup in transition, a third on a tying Knight triple and was finally won the Bucks who controlled the last overtime session.
Probable Lineups
BKN- Jarrett Jack (PG), Alan Anderson (SG), Joe Johnson (SF), Kevin Garnett (PF), Mason Plumlee (C)
MIL- Brandon Knight (PG), Jared Dudley (SG), Khris Middleton (SF), Giannis Antetokounmpo (PF), John Henson (C)
Final Thoughts
After tonight, the Nets head to Memphis to take on the surging Grizzlies in Brooklyn’s last game before the All-Star break. Memphis is 22-5 at home this year, and with the Nets on the road for the second night of a back-to-back, that game will be a very tough one to win. This makes the tilt with the Bucks that much more crucial for them.
