Nets trade Kevin Garnett to Timberwolves for Thaddeus Young

According to TNT’s David Aldridge, the Brooklyn Nets have traded Kevin Garnett back to the team that drafted him, the Minnesota Timberwolves, for forward Thaddeus Young. The deal was contingent on Garnett agreeing to waive his no-trade clause to return to where he became a star.

The trade officially wraps up the 2013 blockbuster the Nets made with the Celtics that sent Paul Pierce, Garnett and Jason Terry to the Nets for a few bench pieces and a horde of first-round draft picks. Pierce is now in Washington, Terry in Houston and KG in Minnesota.

Meanwhile, the Nets get Thaddeus Young, a 26-year-old athletic forward, in return for Garnett’s expiring deal. Young, who spent the first seven seasons of his career with the 76ers, is averaging 14.3 points on 45 percent shooting this year with just over five boards per contest.

Obviously, the trade deadline hasn’t commenced just yet–but it appears like Brook Lopez is staying in Brooklyn–so more moves can be made. As of right now, the only one the Nets have made is picking up Young, which is a nice haul for a soon-to-retire Garnett. Good job, Billy.
