The Nets are looking to win their second game in a row tonight in Denver against the hapless Nuggets, who are mired in the Western Conference cellar.

Brooklyn, which signed Thomas Robinson this afternoon who was acquired by Denver from Portland on Thursday and promptly bought out, beat the Lakers on Friday night in the Nets’ first game after the All-Star break. Now, they take on a disappointing Nuggets team that has severely underperformed expectations the last two years under head coach Brian Shaw.

Every game is important for the Nets, who are in dogfight for the Nos. 7 and 8 seeds in the East with a host of teams, including the Heat, Hornets, Celtics and others. The Nuggets, on the other hand, are well below the postseason threshold and were major sellers at the trade deadline, shipping Arron Afflalo to the Trail Blazers (in the trade including Robinson) and JaVale McGee to the 76ers. Others, such as Wilson Chandler, were rumored to be on the move but ended up staying put.

Probable Lineups

BKN- Deron Williams (PG), Markel Brown (SG), Alan Anderson (SF), Joe Johnson (PF), Mason Plumlee (C)

DEN- Ty Lawson (PG), Gary Harris (SG), Danilo Gallinari (SF), Darrell Arthur (PF), Jusuf Nurkic (C)

Final Thoughts

Jarrett Jack (hamstring) and Bojan Bogdanovic (ankle) are both out for the Nets, so rookie Markel Brown will be making his first NBA start. Deron Williams returns to the starting lineup as Brooklyn continues to use Joe Johnson at the power forward spot.
