Tyler Polumbus, Trent Williams and Alfred Morris
So says the stat masters at Pro Football Focus (PFF) who chart and grade play-by-play performance of every NFL player.
PFF says that tackles Trent Williams and Tyler Polumbus are among the best at their positions. Williams we knew about, but Polumbus?
PFF grades performance as above or below average. With average indexed at zero (0), Williams grades at 32.4 and Polumbus at 20.4, ranked second and ninth among NFL tackles. Browns tackle Joe Thomas edges Williams at No. 1 with a grade of 32.6.
I'm casting my Pro Bowl ballots for these guys right now. How about you?
Guards Chris Chester and Kory Lichtensteiger do not rate as well. PFF grades them slightly below average. They rank Nos. 36 and 38 among NFL guards.
Will Montgomery ranks 13th among NFL centers. Chris Cooley and others have questioned Montgomery's ability to call the proper blocking schemes.
The Redskins just signed former Titans center Kevin Matthews to the roster, a surprising late season move considering there is no key injury at the position. Matthews has two starts to his credit and this is most likely a depth move by the Redskins. One wonders if they are having second-thoughts about Montgomery.
Matthews is the son of Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews who was also his position coach in Tennessee.

Polumbus: RGIII, the soul of consistency
Whatever it is that Mike Shanahan says Daniel Snyder has done to Robert Griffin III, Tyler Polumbus hasn't seen it.
“I don’t think he’s changed since the first time I met him,” Polumbus said in a story quoted by Pro Football Zone. “He has always been one of the hardest-working guys in the weight room and classroom. That’s still the same. Nothing has changed.”
