With the Eastern Conference playoff situation as fluid as it is, one loss can set a team back significantly in the fight for one of the last few playoff spots. The Nets experienced that first hand Wednesday night as they got crushed by the Hornets in a hugely important game for playoff purposes.

Now, a game out of the No. 8 seed, Brooklyn needs a win badly as the struggling Phoenix Suns come into the Barclays Center. The Suns are in their own battle to reach the postseason, and it’s a losing one. Phoenix has gone just 3-7 in its past 10 and has been pushed to the 10th spot in the West, behind the Thunder and Pelicans.

The losing has partly coincided with a pair of surprising trades Phoenix made at the trade deadline in which the Suns shipped Isaiah Thomas to Boston and Goran Dragic to Miami, getting Brandon Knight as well as some draft picks and role pieces in return. The Suns knew Dragic wanted to leave and had a point guard glut to work through, but were not expected to trade away Thomas–who signed a long deal with the team this summer–too.

Probable Lineups

PHX- Brandon Knight (PG), Eric Bledsoe (SG), P.J. Tucker (SF), Markieff Morris (PF), Alex Len (C)

BKN- Deron Williams (PG), Markel Brown (SG), Alan Anderson (SF), Joe Johnson (PF), Mason Plumlee (C)

Final Thoughts

Right now, the new-look Suns are having a hard time gelling as a team, resulting in some very poor play. The Nets, after one of their worst losses of the season, have to take advantage and keep pace in the postseason hunt.
